  • 2015

    August 2015 – Conducted a clinical site visit

    Conducted a clinical site visit at holy innocent children’s hospital in Uganda and identified a challenge of difficult in locating vein among sick children admitted into the hospital. Then went ahead and build a rapid prototype that could help doctors visualize veins. 22

  • 2016

    February 2016 – Development of First generation prototype Of A-lite Vein locator

    After proof of concept, we developed our first generation prototype.

     

     

     

  • 2016

    August 2016 – Conducted a clinical study

    Conducted a clinical study to obtain end-user feedback on the usability, safety and accuracy of
    the second prototype of our vein locator device.

     

  • 2017

    December 2017 – Developed a second generation prototype

    Developed the A-lite vein locator second generation prototype that addressed all feedback obtained from the clinical study.

     

  • 2018

    July 2018 – Company Incorporation

    Incorporated A-lite Uganda Limited as a for-profit limited liability company registered in the
    republic of Uganda.

  • 2019

    January 2019 – Granted intellectual property

    Granted intellectual property (utility model) rights over our designs for A-lite vein locator device.

  • 2019

    June 2019 – Obtained support from the ministry of ICT

    Obtained support from the ministry of ICT, Uganda under the National ICT Initiatives
    Support Program (NIISP) to further the development of our Vein locator device.

  • 2020

    October 2020

    We developed a third generation prototype

  • 2021

    April 2021 – Filing for Approval from MUST REC

    Granted conditional approval by the MUST Research Ethics Committee to conduct clinical
    testing of the A-Lite vein locator among 5 health facilities in Uganda.

Recognition

2020 Winners – Awarded a grant by Vilgro Africa to facilitate clinical testing and trials of our device : March 2020.

Winners NIISP Grant – Award winners of a grant Uganda under the National ICT Initiatives Support Program

Ministry of ICT and National Guidance through its NIISP program held the second cohort of innovation Awards at the Ministry headquarters on 26 June 2019 where 60 winning innovators were given grants up to a total of 100 million UGX (Approx 27,000 USD) per innovator to mature their products, build enterprises and penetrate the market.
